Master Social Worker

Job Description:

I. General Description: Under general direction, performs professional social work duties of moderate to considerable difficulty. The school social worker will work with those social, emotional, behavioral and personal circumstances which interfere with the student making positive constructive use of the school’s education programs. The school social worker’s primary purpose is to provide services to school staff, students and families that strengthen school, home and community relationships to alleviate barriers to learning. II. Qualifications: Hold an Arizona Department of Education endorsed School Social Worker certificate or an MSW Proficiency in computer skills sufficient to complete necessary forms and documentation related to the job Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card Valid State Driver’s License Fluency in Navajo language preferred III. Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics Knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques of the social work field Knowledge of the Tribal codes, court systems and their applications Knowledge of Navajo traditional customs Knowledge of counseling and interviewing techniques Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures Knowledge and experience working with youth or families in crisis and of school, district, and community resources available for them Knowledge of and experience with appropriate referral processes to support families in accessing services for their child with local, county and state referral partners. Proficiency in communicating effectively orally and in writing Skill in applying professional knowledge, techniques and judgment in the work situation including managing confidential information Skill in interacting with clients from various cultural, economic and spiritual backgrounds Ability to work effectively and efficiently without constant supervision Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and effective professional relationships with teachers, administrators, parents, students and community IV. Duties and Responsibilities Serves as a liaison between and provides information, advice and technical assistance to clients and other concerned parties such as school leadership, staff, students, families and community agencies Conducts home visits as needed to gather information to assess student’s needs relevant to the student’s educational, social, emotional and physical development and well-being. Identifies and reports suspected abuse and/or neglectful situations to appropriate agencies Facilitates the processing of referrals and delivery of services if necessary; consults and confers with social services agencies on a regular and/or needed basis for coordination of efforts and services; provides technical assistance and information; prepares relevant required reports and data Develops case plans with families and provides case management to meet the goals and objectives in collaboration with community partners, and assists by providing intervention services to families during times of crisis Coordinates activities with a variety of outside service agencies to provide referral information to students and their families Performs individual and group counseling in facilitating social and emotional adjustment Delivers presentations to students and professional development to staff on intervention issues and techniques upon request Consults other school personnel in planning and implementing strategies for improvement of student behavior, academic progress and personal well-being May provide transportation upon administrative approval for student and/or family to receive services Maintains, compiles and reports accurate records in compliance with district, state and federal regulations Pursues professional learning opportunities as needed to maintain current knowledge and skills related to the job Performs other duties as assigned V.
