Informationabout Farmington and the Farmington area can be found at City ofFarmington.Learn more about this agency### ResponsibilitiesIndependently plans, conducts, and prepares reports and decisionsaffection mineral development projects in the District. The workrequires geologic studies, including surface and subsurface geologicmapping in the assigned area. Make evaluations, primarily of oil andgas on Federal and Indian lands. Prepare geological reportsnecessary for the approval of Applications for Permit to Drill(APDs), recompletions, abandonments and assorted sundry notices.Promotes cooperation and maintains good working relationships withState, Federal agencies, industry, tribes and the public.Physical Demands: The work is primarily in an office setting at thislevel. There may be some walking, standing, of bending. Theindividual may also, on occasion be required to walk or ridevehicles over rough terrain, and perform duties that requirerecurring bending, crouching, stooping, reaching or lifting. Workmay also include lifting of moderately heavy items, such asequipment and samples.Work Environment: The work is performed primarily in a officesetting. However when necessary to complete the work, there may beoutdoor exposure. Outdoor exposure requires some discomfort inextremes of temperature or inclement weather. To becreditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficultyand complexity to the next lower grade GS-11 of the position to befilled. Examples: Geologic investigations, planning, conducting, andpreparing geologic reports supporting fluid mineral actions forFederal and Indian lands within the San Juan Basin. Demonstratedexperience with AFMSS1, AFMSS2, ArcGIS, LR2000, and HIS Power Tools.You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of theclosing date of the announcement. Federal employees in thecompetitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Graderequirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a currentFederal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applyingfor a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line ofprogression for the position being filled.**Basic Educational Requirements -** To qualify under the Geologistseries you must have successfully completed a 4-year course of studyin an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor\`s orhigher degree in the field of Geology, **which included or wassupplemented** by 20 semester hours in any combination ofmathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural,chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science,planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology,hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, andcartography; OR combination of education and experience equivalentto a major in geology or related disciplines appropriate to theposition advertised.
