As a team member, you help fulfill our mission to make life better here for our community.The EMS Supervisor will assist the EMS Manager in supervising the daily operations of the Emergency Medical Services Department by ensuring prompt response to 911 calls and the provision of quality medical treatment and transportation of medical care - according to established local, state, and federal medical guidelines and standards. They will schedule and supervise Paramedics, Advance EMT and, EMT - Basics on assigned shift; ensure compliance with all department and hospital policies and procedures; monitor and ensure the provision of adequate supplies and equipment are available for assigned shifts; helps assure all required patient care records are completed per NM state EMS requirements for their shift; ensure adequate staffing is maintained daily; provide initial and timely payroll for assigned shifts; facilitate all non-emergency transport(s) are completed in a timely manner; and represent the EMS Department with other hospital departments and area public safety agencies as assigned.Required Behaviors:

    • Current New Mexico EMT - Paramedic licensure
    • Current and Valid New Mexico Driver's License
    • Current DOT Physical (ability to obtain upon onboarding)
    • Minimum of five (5) years of EMS related experience and education
    • NIMS 100, 200, 300,400,700, 800 (NIMS 300 and 400 must be obtained within one (1) year)
    • Must meet the requirements for obtaining and maintaining life support certifications as outlined in the Life Support Certification policy (i.e., ACLS, BLS, and PALS)Duties and Responsibilities:On-duty supervisors will cover unit EMS-1 and assume the following responsibilities:
      • Readily available at all times to respond to emergency calls throughout the county
      • Ensure the unit is functional and equipped
      • Maintain a clean unit both inside and out
      • Monitor EMS calls and ambulance status for assigned shifts and assist EMS crews with patient care when neededRespond to unusual or high-risk situations such as, but not limited to:
        • MVCs reporting more than two (2) injured
        • Head-on collisions, all entrapments, and rollovers
        • All full cardiac arrests
        • Aircraft emergencies
        • Potentially serious calls where additional assistance may be required
        • Any scene where specifically requested by ambulance personnel
        • Represent EMS in all joint operations where Incident Command has been established
        • All structure fire responsesOther Duties: -
          • Routinely respond to calls of a serious nature to observe and assist the ambulance crew. May take a clinical role or command role when circumstances warrant
          • Coordinates staffing and related needs to provide adequate staff and service coverage between and among stations and emergency response units
          • Oversee activities and handles various issues occurring during a shift; responds to personnel-related issues in accordance with established policies and procedures; handles issues and provides direction and assistance through subordinate reports
          • Writes, reviews, and recommends changes to existing protocols, policies, and procedures; reviews, assess and assists the work of staff assigned to shift. Help establish work schedules and other assignments, conduct performance appraisals and other related duties
          • Inspects each station and station crew on an assigned shift; ensures compliance with established policies, procedures for operational readiness
          • Identifies and corrects deficiencies; provides education and information regarding system operations; coordinates and schedules staff to attend required training and in-service activities
          • Attend strategy and operations meetings with other supervisors and Chief as needed
          • Assist with Medical Directors and QA/QI Compliance Coordinator with all QA related issues including medical guideline deviations and/or action plans
          • Establish a written Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for all major events: Stand-by, protests, large gatherings, etc. May be in conjunction with FFD, SJCFR, SJRMC, or OEM. It must be completed prior to the event if possible and briefed to all personnel involved
          • Ensure all initial EMS run reports for assigned shift are completed in a timely manner and in compliance with NM State EMS requirements
          • Ensure daily truck equipment checks are performed at every shift change and documentation submitted before noon every day
          • Must work one (1) shift a month on an ambulance if vacancies are unable to be filled by field staff
          • May serve in SJRMC Incident Command in various roles and responsibilities as assigned
          • Identify areas of continuing education needs and assist Education Coordinator in CE offerings
          • Assist with new hire orientation - provide consistent and thorough orientation of new employees
          • Assists with the inspection and maintenance of emergency vehicles and the ensuring of daily supply and equipment inventory; helps crews restock equipment in preparation for subsequent medical responses and shifts if needed
          • Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various documents including daily schedules, daily logs, vehicle maintenance logs, maintenance requisitions, inventory lists, check sheets, incident reports, memos, and correspondence
          • Vehicle maintenance responsibilities: Provide day to day accountability for maintenance by daily communication between supervisors and Fleet and Material Coordinator
          • Employee Evaluations: Supervisors will evaluate their own shift members, utilizing all areas of feedback including direct observation, peer input (360 review)
          • Public relations and education
          • Staffing responsibilities

            • Other duties as assignedPhysical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions:
              • Ability to lift fifty (50) kg
              • May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases
              • Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases
              • Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances
              • Exposure to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness)
              • Subject to varying and unpredictable situations
              • Handles emergency or crisis situations
              • Occasionally subjected to irregular hours
              • Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and injuries
              • Requires judgment/action in sometimes highly stressful situations
