The Director, Clinical Genomics Laboratory at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine is responsible for the overall operation, leadership, and administration of JAXs Clinical and Preclinical Genomic Services Laboratory. The incumbent will maintain regulatory compliance in accordance with Federal, State Regulations governing clinical laboratories, and the requirements for accreditation by the College of American Pathologists, fostering a culture of innovation and transparency, while providing accurate and reliable patient test results. The Director will serve as the technical face of the JAX genomic services laboratory, providing strategic consultation and guidance to customers, external collaborators and internal stakeholders on leading edge molecular technologies, and their applications in clinical testing while maintaining a constructive and collaborative working relationship. This position reports to the Program Director, Clinical Genomics.

Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations: Provide strong leadership and overall operational management to the clinical genomic services laboratory, towards maintaining a robust operational team with a focus on quality, efficiency, effectiveness, teamwork and continuous improvement in all aspects of the laboratory operations. Compliance, Quality and Clinical Diagnostics: Ensure CLIA and CAP compliance and accreditation by ensuring appropriate systems and infrastructure are in place and utilized efficiently and as per the established SOPs. Serve as the CLIA lab director; provide clinical diagnosis and final sign off on reports. Maintain overall accountability for all test reporting that is provided by the clinical laboratory. Innovation: Be the technical expert and advisor to the CLIA Research and Development team on NGS and other advanced technologies, their interpretation and their application in clinical testing. As a member of the Joint Clinical Lab Governance Committee (JCLGC), provide input and guidance of the product development pipeline in order to generate novel solutions that fit the mission of JAX, addressing the unmet needs of the patient. Rapidly validate and commercialize new assays that fit customer needs. Strategy, Business Development and Implementation: Working closely with the Program Director for Clinical Genomics and Senior Leadership Team, contribute by providing strategic input and direction for the business and operations. Provide leadership to JAX Clinical Genomics Lab team in strategic planning for upcoming services offerings and implementation of launch plan for subsequent service offerings. Ensure that standardization and systems are implemented collaboratively and effectively.

Qualifications

Appropriate combination of education, certification and experience necessary to serve as clinical laboratory director for expanding genetic and genomics focused CLIA/CAP-accredited lab with Molecular Pathology and Cytogenetics sections. MD Pathologist with ABP clinical pathology certification or DO with AOBP and licensed to practice in state of CT (or) PhD in biological, or clinical laboratory science, currently ABMGG, ABB boarded in clinical molecular genetics, or Molecular Genetic Pathology boarded through American Board of Pathology. Eligible or certified for NYS CoQ - Genetic Testing (Molecular) and Oncology (Molecular and Cellular Tumor markers) Masters degree in Business Administration will be a plus. Must meet all qualifications to be designated the Clinical Laboratory Director including; good standing with CMS and CLIA state and federal offices and CAP accreditation agency, qualified for Clinical Lab Director as outlined in the CLIA regulations (493.1445) and in accordance with Connecticut state requirements. A minimum of 5+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory operations, molecular genetic assay development, validation, and reporting, including supervision of staff in a CLIA compliant environment. 7+ years of translational research experience, preferably in Oncology is required with demonstrated ability to develop novel technologies/applications for clinical testing. Experience with next-generation sequencing technologies required. Experience in oncology preferred. Additional experience with constitutional disorders is desirable. Molecular microbiology experience is a strong plus. 5+ years of experience in leadership and collaboration in deploying clinical genomics applications with latest sequencing and informatics methodologies. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with employees at all levels within the organization to achieve strategic, tactical and operational goals.
