Job Description:
Residency Staff Psychiatrist NEEDED! Duties and
Responsibilities: Program Development •Administration. Develop a
leadership role in psychiatric Residency steering committee to
advance psychiatric residency training activities in compliance
with ACGME requirements •Curriculum. Develop and clarify rotation
details for residents, preparing written educational goals and
objectives in compliance with the ACGME competencies for residents
at each level of training and/or for each rotation or experience.
•Faculty Recruitment and Development. Recruit and build
participating faculty for the program. Implement a program of
continuous quality improvement in medical education for faculty,
pertaining to the teaching and evaluation of the competencies,
faculty development for teaching skills to promote scholarly
activity and research and competent clinical teaching and
evaluation. •Policy Development. Comply with agreements for the
program and assist with institutional policy development that
relates to GME. •Facility and Space Planning. Participate in
planning physical needs in compliance with ACGME requirements.
•Educational Resources. Participate in planning and making
recommendations for the acquisition of optimal educational
resources for residency education. •Educational Culture. Assist
with developing and enhancing the general medical educational and
teaching culture. •Clinical practice. Ensure that residents have
clinical experiences that meet or exceed compliance with ACGME
requirements. Residency Program Administration •Participate in GME
Committee meetings and sub-committees and provide administrative
leadership as appropriate. •Ensure that residency policies and
procedures are reflected in medical staff by-laws and other
policies as appropriate. •Oversee and ensure the quality of
didactic and clinical education in all sites that participate in
the program •Ensure that the residency maintains a proper balance
between service and education by not placing excessive reliance on
residents for clinical service in the hospital or clinic setting.
•Prepare and submit all information required and requested by the
ACGME. •Provide each resident with documented semiannual evaluation
of performance with feedback. •Comply with the sponsoring
institutions and training institutions written policies and
procedures. •Be familiar with and comply with ACGME and Review
Committee policies and procedures as outlined in the ACGME Manual
of Policies and Procedures. •Contribute to selection of appropriate
psychiatry residents for training experience. Assure that residents
are provided with appropriate information and on-boarding
procedures. Educational Program •Within the institution, have the
authority to ensure effective teaching and obtain teaching
commitments from other departments involved in the education of
residents. •Prepare written educational goals and objectives of the
residency experience with respect to the Competencies of residents
at each level of training and for each major rotation or other
program assignment. •Ensure that the written educational goals and
objectives are readily available for review and are distributed to
residents and faculty members. •Maintain a permanent record of
evaluation for each resident,. •Outline in writing the lines of
responsibility for and supervision of patient care on all inpatient
and ambulatory settings for all members of the teaching teams.
•Ensure that there is a rapid and reliable system for residents to
communicate with supervising attending physicians and residents.
•Maintain and participate in an environment of scholarly activity.
•Participate in academic societies and in educational programs
designed to enhance educational and administrative skills. Clinical
Activities: •Participate in direct patient care clinical activities
in ambulatory and/or inpatient settings in association with
residents and faculty in the program to meet ACGME compliance.
•Evaluate patients by interviewing patient, family, and other
persons; conducting physical examinations; observing behaviors;
reviewing medical history and related documents; selecting,
administering, and interpreting psychological tests; and ordering
laboratory tests and evaluating results. •Develop treatment plans
by determining nature and extent of cognitive, emotional,
developmental, social, and behavioral disorders and establishing
treatment goals and methodologies. •Treat patients by utilizing
psychotherapeutic methods and medications; discussing progress
toward goals with patients; providing instructions; monitoring
effect of medications; and supervising staff provision of services.
•Maintain interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans
and progress, and consulting and collaborating with primary care
physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care
providers. •Assure quality and safe service for patients and staff
by enforcing policies, procedures, standards, rules, Joint
Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Organizations
requirements, and legal regulations; participating in utilization
reviews; and remaining available for emergency consultations.
•Improve staff competence by providing training and discussions
regarding the interrelationship between psychosocial and
physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis
intervention, and related issues. •Maintain historical records by
documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events and writing
summaries. •Update job knowledge by participate in continuing
medical educational opportunities, reading professional
publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in
professional organizations. •Enhance department and organization
reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and
different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job
accomplishments Education and Required Credentials: •M.D. or D.O
degree •Current or board certification eligible in Psychiatry
•Current, or eligible, medical licensure in New Mexico •Experience
Required: Minimum of successful completion of 4 year Psychiatric
Residency Program. This area is enriched by the cultures of
