Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE: Directs and coordinates the nursing programs for NTU. Oversees day to day program operations.This position description indicates in general the nature and levels of work, knowledge, skills, and abilities. It is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities required or assigned to this position.JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops departmental plans, policies, procedures, goals and objectives and ensures compliance to regulations.
  • Develops, reviews, and revises state-required nursing curriculum.
  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing and administering annual budget; presenting and justifying budget recommendations to appropriate personnel.
  • Determines required laboratory and classroom equipment needs.
  • Exercise leadership in the area of program oversight and curriculum maintenance. Have a broad understanding of the intricacies of the program and its relationship to the University at large.
  • Conducts periodic program review and maintaining appropriate assessment records. Review assessment activities periodically.
  • Coordinate a schedule of course offerings to meet the needs of the students. Provide leadership in the advisement of students and evaluation of student performance.
  • Maintain meaningful agreements with local clinical sites; oversee scheduling and assignment of students at such clinical sites.
  • Oversee, market, and participate in regular events related to student recruitment and any other activities related to the nursing program and community outreach.
  • Coordinates admission and advisement for students in the Nursing program.
  • Serves as liaison with community health agencies, institutions and/or groups to keep abreast of community needs.
  • Serves as liaison with regulatory and accrediting bodies.
  • Responsible for the annual ongoing systematic development, implementation and evaluation of the total program.
  • Collaborates with administration, staff and faculty to improve efficiencies in customer services, teaching and learning for students.
  • Teaches nursing classes.
  • Keeps leadership and other departments informed of status of department activities by attending meetings and submitting reports.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
  • Maintains clinical and educational competencies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Hosts regular staff meetings to ensure communication among personnel regarding departmental activities.
    • Supervises and manages personnel which include hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
    • Preparing and maintaining departmental budgets and oversee compliance throughout fiscal year; time keeping and approval.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
      • Master's Degree in Nursing or related field.
      • Five (5) years' work experience in a senior administrative position at an accredited institution of higher learning.
      • Current Registered Nursing License in New Mexico or a compact state; current CPR Certification by the American Heart Association.
      • Valid and clean state driver's license.
      • Must be able to pass background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies and no history of child abuse and/or neglect.The Navajo Nation Preference in Employment Act applies to all hiring, promotions or transfers of individuals into this position. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
        • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
        • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of education for nursing programs.
        • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise.
        • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
        • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
        • Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
        • Knowledge of health education theory and practice.
        • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
        • Organizational planning, structuring, and staffing skills.
        • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
        • Ability to clearly communicate medical information to professional practitioners and/or the general public.
        • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
        • Ability to collect and apply both quantitative and qualitative data in a continuous improvement process for formative evaluation purpose.
        • Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.
        • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
        • Ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment.
        • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
        • Ability to communicate effectively in the Navajo and English language.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
          • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently sits, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and squat.
          • Use hands for dexterity of motion, repetitive movement of both hands.
          • Have normal auditory, visual acuity, and verbal communications skills.
          • The employee must occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT
            • Work is generally performed in indoor setting.
            • Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
